There are several substantial benefits many veterans and their families are eligible for, but may not be aware of, such as the Aid and Attendance Special Pension.
Aid and Attendance is a LIFETIME pension for qualified veterans and spouses who need personal care. The benefit helps cover the cost of home care, adult day care, assisted living and skilled nursing facility care.
Aid and Attendance Benefit – Do you meet the 3-M’s to qualify?
- Military: Are you a veteran or the surviving spouse of a veteran who served at least 90 days on active duty, at least one day during wartime, with an honorable discharge? (Persian Gulf War veterans must have two years of active duty or the full period for which they were called for active duty.)
- Medical: Do you have a non-service connected medical condition causing you to need assistance with activities of daily living?
- Money: Do you have limited income and assets? (Your home and car are exempt.)
What are Activities of Daily Living?
Activities of daily living (ADLs) are routine self-care activities that people tend do every day without needing assistance. There are six basic ADLs: eating, bathing, dressing, continence (using the toilet), and mobility (transferring, walking), and grooming.
